Got (almost) run over in New York City one night.
Sprinting in a frenzy of ecstatic release,
Air billowing straight through my skull
To hit passersby like bricks or trucks.
(Well, that's what happened to me.)
Rolled over the car hood
Teeth flashing knew I'd be fine all along
Yelled 'Fuck you!' at the careless driver
(It wasn't his fault, just my adrenaline that said it)-
And baby in the passenger seat grabs the horns:
'Fuck you!'
She flares up like an empty thing,
Becoming an empty thing again
Once the voice subsides.
I laugh maniacally
With all the grand amusement of the Joker.
The silent driver seemed concerned
That he may have hurt me;
But Shelly just wanted to get her fix.
I resumed my frantic trajectory.
